Dark Horse in Taggerty

The Travelling - foodies are thrilled with this news just to hand.... a huge Congratulations to Oscar Rosa, Nick Arena and their team at Mt Cathedral Wines in Taggerty within the Upper Goulburn Region.

They have just been nominated in the new James Halliday Wine Companion as one of Australia's 10 Dark Horses for 2014.
We are pleased to note that this beats their previous rating of  a 4.5 star rating in 2009 - a five star means usually 2 wines above a 94 point rating...
 From the wine companion website:
“The Rosa and Arena families began planting the 5ha estate vineyards on the north face of Mt Cathedral in 1995, completing the planting the following year. No pesticides or systemic chemicals are used in the vineyard, and winemaker Oscar Rosa has a Bachelor of Wine Science degree from CSU, coupled with practical experience working at Yering Station in the late ’90s. The 2010 red wines are quite remarkable!” To be part of this there were 15 wineries nominated and in James words:
"There was a large number of contenders for this recognition, and in part to reduce that number to a more manageable level, I have followed last year’s pre-qualification that the winery in question has not previously achieved a five-star rating, although many have been knocking on the door of five stars over the years.”.
